Geoprocessing Services for Spatial Decision Support in the Domain of Housing Market Analyses Experiences from Applying the OGC Web Processing Service Interface in Practice

چکیده
In the domain of housing market analyses decision makers typically are supported by Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The new Web Processing Service (WPS) standard of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) offers nowadays the possibility to realize GIS analysis functionalities also on the Internet via a standardized interface. In this article we present how we applied the WPS specification for housing market analyses. This demonstrates how flexible GIS functionalities can be used in specific scenarios while providing them as WPS processes. Furthermore we used the specification for chaining Web Services. Hence we demonstrate that the interface is an alternative to the usage of established standards for Web Service Orchestration (WSO) like the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL). The advantages and disadvantages of such approaches will be discussed.

1 Introduction The rise of digital sensors and the Sensor Web is expected to have wide reaching implications for the monitoring of the physical and human world [1] and has already resulted in an explosion in the volume and availability of spatially referenced data pertaining to our surroundings. While this deluge of easily accessible near real-time data brings numerous opportunities, it also pr...
متن کاملKnowledge Bases in Spatial Data Infrastructures – A new Level of Decision Support
Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) define a framework that allows online access to distributed geographic data and geoprocessing capabilities. They are typically based on distributed web services and aim to be a complementary approach to the predominating local management and processing of data sets. SDIs develop their real performance on national or international scales only in case that cross...
متن کاملIntegration of GRASS Functionality in Web based SDI Service Chains
Bringing the full set of GIS (Geographical Information System) functionality into a SOA (Service-oriented Architecture) based environment is one of the substantial changes in the GIS domain. Standardized data access and coordinate transformation and visualization functionality are already available and commonly used in Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Nevertheless, one problem still remains:...
متن کاملUsing SensorML to construct a geoprocessing e-Science workflow model under a sensor web environment
Many achievements in web-based geoprocessing focus on logically chaining Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web services, for example using Business Process Execution Language to orchestrate web services that are interfaced through the OGC Web Processing Service. For e-Science application in a sensor web environment, how to internally integrate the sensor system, observation, and processes (physi...
